The Only Constant

“The only thing constant in life is change”. Have you heard this one before? The truth is that everything changes, and the more that we try to slow down this change, the sicker, more stuck, and more frustrated we become. Nature can always be used as a metaphor to any life lesson, specifically change. Each year, especially in this part of the country, we see the epiphany of change through the magnificence of winter, spring, summer and fall. Each season transforms the earth, supporting its natural rest and renewal cycles. In order to appreciate our own transformation cycles, we may need to trust the ones that Mother Nature so beautifully displays for us.
 
For humans, we need a motivator to change, and it usually comes in some form of stress.
We all have stress in our lives. It is nothing more than energy that affects our body, mind and spirit. Stress promotes transformation. Stress can be in the form off physical, emotional, or chemical. The brilliance of our bodies can turn stress into energy with which we transform.
 
Here is an example of how stress can run its course in the body; in a healthy scenario, if a person has a fall, and lands on her knee, the force of the fall ideally will come into the knee and move up the thigh into the pelvis and down the calf into the foot. If the force of the fall becomes stuck, it will stay in the knee and build momentum. This can cause some serious problems for that knee. The goal for any stress that we come across is to move it through the body, and not let it get stuck.
 
If and when stress gets stuck in the body, the body becomes sick. The way that our bodies let us know that they are stuck is they give us signals. These signals come in the form of aches, pains, stiffness, soreness, headaches, fever and more. In order to promote and support health in the body, we need to transform the stuck stress. We need to help our body to move stress through, so that we can release it. We release stress through laughing, crying, exercise, body discharge (colds, etc.), and more. The solution to well-being is not through muting our signals (symptoms), but moving and transforming our stress.
 
How do we transform stress? Any true healing art is designed to do just that, promote release and renewal. Healing is not about FIXING, it is about TRANSFORMING. Bodywork is very instrumental in the stress releasing process. It helps your body to become more flexible, so that whatever stress you are experiencing can be released. Chiropractic, massage, energy work, yoga, meditation, and breathe work are some of the many modalities that support the body to release stress. When your body is ready to change and release, any trusted practitioner with the right intention can be just the fulcrum you need. And Walah, change happens.
 
As far as wanting to change is concerned, there are very few people who willingly jump on this wagon. We learn the minute we are born we learn that a new environment is a scary, unknown one. Some of us have growing pains as kids that would make the world’s most vertically challenged want to stay put. And emotional growth, ah, what do they say, ‘pain is the TOUCHSTONE of spiritual progress’. No wonder why so many people set there lives up to stay put, to not evolve, to try to beat the fate of change. However, it is through our growth spirts that we become who we really want to be. It is through our most painful, intense lessons that we become strong.
 
Take the example of a pregnant women, experiencing the first signs of new life growing inside her belly. Most of us before we experience this phase of our womanhood imagine it to be the best time of our lives, (angels singing and all). But on the contrary, many of us are set straight, quickly. We learn an entire new meaning of nausea, constipation, headaches, moodiness, not to mention the new body shape that we begin to take on. Everything transforms, and fast! We are changing and transforming as much as is humanly possible. And of course, it is one of the most amazing processes that a woman can experience, other wise we would all only have one child.
 
This is a great time of the year to impregnate your self with self reflection, renewal and the opportunity to change. Are there old stresses that are stored in your body and in your life that make you stuck? What kind of signals do they give you? Are you ready to let go of the stress, or is it serving a purpose in your life (and sometimes it does!)? When you are ready, call a healing professional who you can trust, and let them know that it is time for a change. You deserve it!
